The GeoCat (Geometrical Categorization) psychometric instrument has been recently developed by Brakel (University of Michigan). It is an easy to use instrument designed to provide an inventory of the primary and secondary Freudian processes (see Freud's psychic apparatus model, 1895). Current investigations focus on: (1) the validation of the instrument (intercultural validity, longitudinal studies, biases), (2) the evaluation of psychological treatments according to primary processes mentation in psychosis and other pathological conditions (trauma, acting out), (3) the participation of the primary processes in creativity .
